Browsing through the stories and posts on Instagram, you often come across videos that you would like to repost, that is, share in your turn on your profile, but you do not find a function suitable for the purpose. This happens because the famous photographic social network, unlike Facebook and other online platforms, does not integrate a share button to repost videos made by other users. But all is not lost!
In the next paragraphs, in fact, I will explain how to repost a video on Instagram using some solutions, most of which are unofficial, suitable for the purpose. Whether you want to share videos posted in Stories or in the feed, I’m sure you’ll find at least one resource that meets your needs.
Just a small recommendation before moving on to the practical side of the tutorial: never repost content without asking for the express consent of the original author of the same, because this may not take your action well and complain about what happened.
Clear? Then don’t tell me I didn’t warn you! That said, there is nothing left for me to do but wish you good reading and, above all, have fun!
How do you share someone else’s Instagram post on Facebook
Want to share someone else’s Instagram post? There are various solutions you can rely on: you can use a function integrated in the photographic social network, which allows you to repost the contents in which you are mentioned, you can record the screen in order to “capture” a story of others or, again, you can use third-party applications that allow you to repost Instagram Stories. The choice is yours!
If you have been mentioned by a user in a Story, you can use a special Instagram function to repost the content on your account in an extremely easy and fast way.
To proceed, log into your Instagram account via the official app for Android or iOS and tap on the house symbol located on the left. Then scroll through the list of Stories located at the top, open the content in which you were mentioned and tap the white button Add this content to your story, located at the bottom.
In the new screen that opens, possibly customize the content in question, using the specific functions of Instagram and, when you are ready to do so, tap the Your story button to repost the content. Did you see how simple it was?
How to record the screen
If you haven’t been mentioned in the Story you want to repost, you can’t take advantage of the feature I told you about in the previous chapter of the tutorial. You must, therefore, resort to alternative solutions, such as screen recording (in order to “capture” the video of your interest and then bring it back as if it were a normal movie taken with the camera of your device).
If you have an Android device, you can record what’s happening on the screen using third-party apps, such as ADV Screen Recorder or Rec Screen Recorder, which work on all terminals equipped with Android 5.0. Actually, they also work on Android versions equal to or earlier than 4.4 but, in that case, they need root permissions.
That said, let’s take action. To record the screen with the applications in question, you must start them, and press the REC button immediately after starting the Story of your interest in Instagram (in order to start recording the screen).
After that, at the end of the video, you have to press the Stop button . If any steps are not clear to you, check out my guide on how to record screen on Android.
If you have an iPhone updated to iOS 11 or later, you can instead record the screen using the recording feature included “standard” in the Apple operating system. To take advantage of the feature in question, start playing the Story of your interest on Instagram, then call up the iOS Control Center by swiping from bottom to top (on iPhone 8/8 Plus and earlier) or by swiping towards the bottom from the top right corner of the screen (on iPhone X and later) and presses the REC button.
When the video is finished, go back to the iOS Control Center and hit the REC button, to stop recording. The movie will be saved in the Photos app .
Once you have recorded the screen and captured the video of your interest, you must share it on Instagram: start the official app of the social network on your Android or iOS device, tap on the little man symbol at the bottom right, press the (+) button located on your profile photo (top left) and press on the thumbnail of the last content saved in the Gallery.
Select, therefore, the movie of your interest and, in the screen that opens, press the Share button next to the wording Your story and that’s it.
As I mentioned a few lines above, it is possible to repost a video of an Instagram Story by also using third-party apps. Let me explain how a couple of them work.
How to repost on Instagram
If you use an Android device, I suggest you try Repost Story, an app that allows you to repost videos (and even photos) present in Instagram Stories quite easily and quickly. Before explaining how it works, I would like to tell you that, to use it, you must provide your login details to Instagram (which, being an app made by third-party developers, could potentially pose a threat to privacy. ).
If you have decided to try Repost Story, after installing and starting the app, fill in the text fields Phone number, username or e-mail and Password with your Instagram login details and tap the Login button.
Then open the Story in which there is the video you want to share on your profile, tap on the preview of the content in question (so you can see it in full screen) and press the Save button, in order to save it in the Gallery of your device.
Now, start the Instagram app , tap on the little man symbol at the bottom right, tap on the (+) symbol located on your profile photo (top left) and then tap on the thumbnail of the last saved content in the Gallery, located at the bottom left.
In the screen that opens, select the video of your interest, tap on Your story to share it and that’s it. On the iPhone, however, I suggest you try Story Reposter which allows you to re-share the contents of the Stories made by other Instagram users, whether they contain videos or simply photos. It works fine but, from the tests I’ve done, it doesn’t seem to be able to repost the contents of private profiles.
That said, let’s take action. After installing and starting a Story Reposter on your device, scroll through the information sheets that illustrate its characteristics, press the Close button and grant it permission to access your photos.
Then provide the name of the person who created the video you want to repost, write it in the Type the name of the Instagram user field, and tap the SEARCH button.
On the screen that opens, press on the name of the person you are interested in and tap on the item Video posted [N] hour/minute ago. Then press the Repost button on the open screen, select the Instagram item from the menu that opens and consent to access the Instagram app.
Once open it, press the button History and make a repost of the video on your history by tapping the button Your History.
How do you share someone else’s post on Instagram
Has someone you follow on Instagram shared an interesting video in their feed and would you like to know how to repost it? The solutions you can adopt are basically the ones I listed in the previous chapters: record the screen or use third-party apps.
If you opt for screen recording, what was said in one of the previous chapters of this tutorial applies. On Android, you can use third-party apps to succeed (unless your device has an integrated recording function implemented by the manufacturer), while on the iPhone you can take advantage of the “standard” feature on iOS ( in versions 11 and later of the operating system).
Once you have recorded the video of your interest (by recording the screen), you will have to repost the captured video: to do this, start the official Instagram app on your Android or iOS device, tap the button ( +) located at the bottom (center) and press on the thumbnail of the video saved in the Gallery. At this point, press the Forward and Share items and that’s it.
App to share Instagram videos
If you want to use apps to share Instagram videos, instead, take a look at the solutions below, because they will surely be useful for you.
If you have an Android device, I suggest you try Repost for Instagram, an app that allows you to repost content on Instagram by simply copying the URL and pasting it into it. By purchasing the Pro version of the app, which costs € 5.75, it is possible to remove the advertisement and the label containing the name of the user who originally posted the content.
While you are waiting for the Repost for Instagram download to complete on your device, locate the content you want to repost on Instagram, tap on the symbol (…) and, in the menu that opens, select the Copy link item. Then start Repost for Instagram and make sure that the copied content is present in the app.
At this point, to repost the content, tap on the preview of the video to be shared, select, via the menu at the bottom, the point where you want to place the label with the name of the user who originally published the video and tap the Repost button.
In the menu that opens, then tap on the Open Instagram item, press the arrow symbol located at the top right and press the Next and Share items.

If you own an iPhone, however, I suggest you use Repost: For Instagram, an app that allows you to repost content by copying the link from Instagram and pasting them inside.
While you are waiting for the app to download, locate the video you are interested in reposting on Instagram, press the symbol (…) located in the upper right corner of the latter and, from the menu that opens, select the Copy link item.
Then start Repost: for Instagram and presses on the video you have just copied the link. Next, tap the Attribution mark button and select the color of the label concerning the user who originally shared the video ( White or Black ) and the position where you want to insert it (if you want, you can also hide it by selecting the None item ).
To complete the operation, press the Repost button located at the bottom, you agree to open Instagram, select where you want to share the video ( Story or Feed ) and follow the instructions you see on the screen to complete the operation. Easy, right?
A YouTube video cannot be inserted into an Instagram story, as it cannot be re-shared within the app of the well-known social network, except as a link in the Direct. In this regard, the only viable solution is to extract the video or record the screen of the smartphone (or tablet).
In the first case, I suggest you read my guides on how to download videos from YouTube with Android and how to download videos from YouTube on iPhone, in which I have recommended some third-party apps that allow you to download videos from YouTube.
To record, instead, the screen of your Android or iOS device, you can follow the instructions I indicated in my guide on how to film the mobile screen, in which I told you in detail about the native functionality of iOS 11 for iPhone and iPad and third-party apps for Android, useful for this purpose.
